People often ask me how I come up with things to blog about, and I find the question strange, because my problem is the opposite. I have too much to blog about. Why? Because there’s a whole fast revolution rolling through, and right now – today – is our time to make it all work for us. If we’re going to show people how to use social media to drive meaningful conversations instead of being yet another marketing tool, we have to run out and educate at a break-neck pace, so we can bring more and more thought leaders into alignment with these big and not-so-big organizations who could use our help.

My brother's friend is coming over to help him with his Medieval Torture project thingie for his Medieval Fair that everyone does in 6th grade. Of course he would be assigned the torture chamber. Of course his best friend MATT would just mysteriously be assigned his partner. Of COURSE he has to do the entire project at Matt's house and NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PLAY ROCK BAND WITH MATT'S BRAND SPANKING NEW DRUMS. But that's just me...I've done most of the work for him so far anyway. That's why MATT is coming over HERE. So I'll finally meet this mysterious Matt and see his forked thumb...heheh.

Okay, I know I haven't updated in a while. Mostly because I've been under a lot of pressure. I mean a LOT of pressure. Hey, why don't YOU try to read Uncle Tom's Cabin in two days? With annotations? And a character list? And a theme walkthrough? Yeah, I thought so. But I finished the reduction...

Anyway, I was sick yesterday. I threw up. A lot. Thank god for washing machines, because otherwise I'd be sleeping in my guest room...ew...

Midterms and Finals!!! MUST-READ STUDY TIPS!!!

Ack, exams are coming! With midterms and final exams, students have two goals. First, you want to ace the exams, or at least get decent grades and do as well as possible. Second, there's your sanity; you want to get through exams with a minimum of stress and test anxiety. Fortunately, with the right study skills techniques, you can both manage your stress and do well on the tests. Here are some study skills tips for final exams to help you do well and stay sane.
• Time management. Plan, plan, plan. Before finals begin, get out your calendar and schedule as much of your finals week as possible. Then stick with the schedule.
• Schedule in study breaks. Don't plan to study non-stop for the next five days. You'll go insane, and you'll be too fried to do well on the exams. When you write your schedule, include short study breaks to help you recharge. You'll feel so much better and will be able to concentrate so much more. Here's some suggestions for great study breaks.
• Schedule in sleep. Some people can function well on three hours of sleep a night. Most cannot. You'll do much better during exams if your mental state is good, and sleep is essential for this.
• Exercise. There's no better source for stress relief. Just don't overdo it to the point that you're procrastinating heavily. Go for short, stress-relieving activities, like racquetball or a treadmill run. And don't underestimate the value of a brisk walk.
• Prioritize. You have limited time to study and will have to choose what to spend the most time with. You could spend hours and hours on that math exam because if you do really well, you might be able to pull of a C. Or you can spend hours and hours on a history exam because if you do well, you've got a good shot at an A. It's up to you.
• Form effective study groups. Just don't waste your time with lousy ones. Here are some tips for effective study groups.
• Free your schedule. As much as possible, eliminate other responsibilities. Work fewer hours. Put off social events. Definitely put off shopping.
• Ask your professor for help. If you're confused about your notes or the readings, go to the resident expert. This works much better if you don't put off studying until the last minute. It's a good idea to read through all of your notes before you start to study, so that you can inquire early about things that confuse you.
• Keep things in perspective. What's the worst thing that can happen if you don't do well on this test? Excessive stress will make you crazy and hurt your performance on tests, so as much as you can, relax. And if you're having serious problems with anxiety during final exams, seek help at your school's counseling center. This is a common problem that schools are well equipped to help you with.

Heyy!!! Just in case you're wondering, yes, I AM INDEED in Canada at this exact moment. Even though there's only an hour difference, it's still really tiring. It's 8:01 right now...now 8:02...here. So if that's what it says on the little thingie under this post, move it back an hour. Not literally. Figuratively. It's an hour behind there. But if it says 7:01 (ahem, 7:02), then, hey, it's still set on American-Illinoisese time. So great!!!

My cousin, Veronica, and I were reunited on the day after we arrived, the 25th, so now we're best buddies again. If Veronica's reading this (because I told her to, lol jkjk) then hi, Veronica!!! Sorry, I'm like REALLY tired. I've been up all night thinking about this drawing of a flower I REALLY REALLY REALLY need to draw for my grandma's birthday. Wow. Pathetic, isn't it? But vacations are all about pathetic relaxation and fun, so ha. :P

Anyway, apparently I'm amused very easily. My brother and I were having a laughing contest in the car on our way home from this city (that I will most certainly NOT be saying, just that it starts with a B and ends with anff) and I lost. We have to be careful what we are adding together. Originally, they paid $30, they each received back $1, thus they now have only paid $27. Of this $27, $25 went to the manager for the room and $2 went to the bellboy.

Impossible Quiz Tips

Skim over the answers briefly on the link I already gave you. Read the really long ones, because those are usually the action ones where you have to do something.
DON'T USE YOUR SKIPS!!! Unless you pick one up on the green comet one, you can't use any of them, because you'll need them for the last question. ;)
When there's a timer, do what you have to do, and DO IT FAST!!! If there aren't any answers or questions, chances are you have to click something. On the toenail one, you click on each nail, "trimming" them. You have to get it done. FAST.
If the question isn't timed but there's no question or answers, slide your mouse over the screen. The lightening rod one? Slide it up and down the lightening rod until lightening hits it. The cat one? Slide the mouse up and down the cat's back to pet it, until the bar goes all the way up. Then click repeatedly on the cat.
On the "don't touch the _" ones, well, you heard it! The pink one is hardest, but I figured out (in my FIRST try!!!!! :D) that you right click and go over the menu thing that pops up for the "bridge" it hints about. NOTE: This also works for the comet one. Go into the lower righthand corner over the weird part that you can't touch and right click. Wait for the comet and touch it with the mouse.

Wall Ball

Bored? Try this game I just made up!!! Well, not just. I've been playing is with my brother for about a month. We just worked out the kinks. :P

Materials:

a closed garage door or sturdy wall
an inflated lightweight playground ball
one to three people

How To Play:

The three people playing line up along the garage door a yard or two away from each other and the garage. The first player (it doesn’t matter which) throws the ball at the garage door. If it hits the door, it may bounce up to two times before another player hits it back to the door. If it hits the wall around or above the garage door, a player must hit the ball before it touches the ground. If the ball lands on the roof and slides down, it may hit the ground one time before a player must hit it back towards the garage door. A player may only hit the ball five times to him or herself, and the ball may not be hit more than once before it hits the garage door again. The game continues until the maximum number of bounces has been reached, a ball is missed, or the ball is lost.

(NOTE: If playing against a wall, preset a determined point where the “garage door” would be and where the “roof” and “wall” would be. A slight variation is just hitting the ball against the wall like normal, and only stopping the game if the ball is missed or lost.)

Scoring:

The object of the game is to have the least amount of points at the end of each round. A point is given to a player when he or she drops the ball, misses the ball, or allows the ball to bounce an exceeding amount of that allowed. The points may be kept by a scorekeeper, or the game may be interrupted to allow one player to record the score.

(NOTE: If playing single—with one person—a slight variation is to reach fifty points, a point gained by the ball hitting the garage door. Each time the ball hits the wall or roof, a point is lost.)

Tips:

When serving from the far right or left sides, throw the ball at an angle to the garage so that it hits in front of the middle player, or the center of the space in between two players. It will reflect back to the player opposite from you.
When the ball rolls off of the roof, call “Got it!” to avoid being injured or run into by another player.
Using a lightweight ball will be beneficial: It bounces easier, travels farther, is easy to hit, and won’t get you in trouble when you accidentally dent the garage door because of the weight. ;)

I now present to you...the FIFTY FUN WEBSITES CHALLENGE!!! Dunh-dunh-duh-duh-duh!!! :P. Okay, NOW what am I blabbering on about? Well, the Fifty Fun Websites Challenge was first suggested by a young girl in Australia, who was bored one day and posted something on her MySpace about exciting new websites. Pretty soon, even Switzerland was involved! Thus, the Fifty Fun Websites Challenge was born! Every person reading her MySpace was responsible for five fun websites. Then, they'd comment them and it would be posted for real! (Note: This story is one hundred percent factually false.)

Basically, I'm looking for new or exciting websites. And DON'T try to throw bored.com at me, because I'm sure EVERYONE knows about that one. (Or do you...?)

So. Find a website, comment it on this or any newer post, and bada-bing, bada-boom, you'll be famous and have a gazillion dollars. Well, not really. But it'll be fun, you know?

Here's something that might help you out. It's a great starter, but try to find some you actually came across by chance, okay? I'm not really aiming for fifty. More like ten. Or five. Or ONE!!! Is that so hard? I think not.

Anyway, I just got back from a shortened camping trip in Wisconsin. It was fun, 'sept we had to go home early on account of that stupid thunderstorm that was coming. Apparently the lifetime warranty on our tent wasn't good enough to cover water damage due to storing a wet tent on top of a car for four hours, which we would have done had it not been for the weather station on the radio. (Thank you, Eric and Kathy!!!) So yeah. Waterproof tents and four-hour-on-top-of-the-car-in-a-waterproof-bag-trips do not bode well together. (Sorry, word of the day!!!)

3)Rainforests are being cut down at the rate of 100 acres per minute.
4)A single quart of motor oil, if disposed of improperly, can contaminate up to 2,000,000 gallons of fresh water.
5)You can walk 1 mile along an average highway in the United States and see about 1,457 pieces of litter.
6)The Washington, DC-based Institute For Local Self-Reliance calculates that recycling creates 36 jobs per 10,000 tons of material recycled compared to 6 jobs for every 10,000 of tons brought to traditional disposal facilities. (6 times higher employment!)

1)The first real recycling program was introduced in New York City in the 1890s. The city's first recycling plant was built in 1898.
2)About one-third of an average dump is made up of packaging material.
3)The U.S. is the #1 trash-producing country in the world at 1,609 pounds per person per year. This means that 5% of the world's people generate 40% of the world's waste.
4)Roughly 90% of landfill contents are recyclable.
5)Out of ever $10 spent buying things, $1 (10%) goes for packaging that is thrown away. Packaging represents about 65% of household trash.
6)On average, it costs $30 per ton to recycle trash, $50 to send it to the landfill, and $65 to $75 to incinerate it.
7)Americans generate and throw away 9 times as much waste as does a person in Africa or Central America, but we also generate two to three times the amount of waste as people living in industrial countries with a comparable or better standard of living as us.

Fun Facts About Glass!!!

1)Every month, we throw out enough glass bottles and jars to fill up a giant skyscraper. All of these jars are recyclable!
2)The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle can run a 100-watt light bulb for four hours. It also causes 20% less air pollution and 50% less water pollution than when a new bottle is made from raw materials.
3)A modern glass bottle would take 4000 years or more to decompose -- and even longer if it's in the landfill.
4)Mining and transporting raw materials for glass produces about 385 pounds of waste for every ton of glass that is made. If recycled glass is substituted for half of the raw materials, the waste is cut by more than 80%.

1)To produce each week's Sunday newspapers, 500,000 trees must be cut down.
2)Recycling a single run of the Sunday New York Times would save 75,000 trees.
3)If all our newspaper was recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year!
4)During World War II when raw materials were scarce, 33% of all paper was recycled. After the war, this number decreased sharply.
5)If you had a 15-year-old tree and made it into paper grocery bags, you'd get about 700 of them. A supermarket could use all of them in under an hour! This means in one year, one supermarket goes through 60,500,000 paper bags! Imagine how many supermarkets there are in the U.S.
6)The amount of wood and paper we throw away each year is enough to heat 50,000,000 homes for 20 years.
7)Approximately 1 billion trees worth of paper are thrown away every year in the U.S.
8)The average household throws away 13,000 separate pieces of paper each year. Most is packaging and junk mail.
9)The 17 trees saved (above) can absorb a total of 250 pounds of carbon dioxide from the air each year. Burning that same ton of paper would create 1500 pounds of carbon dioxide.
10)The construction costs of a paper mill designed to use waste paper is 50 to 80% less than the cost of a mill using new pulp.
11)Each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!

Yahoo!!! Sorry, that was cheesy. But this is the first official post on the Green Freax United blog. It's the same as Coffee Snobs, only now completely run by the previous Muffin, presently known now as Green Freak!!! :):):)
